DIFFERENTIAL
RE-ASSEMBLY - ADJUSTMENT
Mounting of the rear bearing on the pinion
- Assemble the following parts on the press
bench as follows :
- a lead
bas~
- drive pin ion 1
- Rear bearing

- drive pinion bearing fitting tool C
·end pad

- Using the press, drive bearing down until it
abuts.
- Hold rear axle housing in the vice
- Install thrust washer

in the housing.
- Install the outer bearing races 4 and
5
bock to
bock into the housing using the bo It
L 1,
thrust
plate
L2
and the nut
LS.
- Tighten and apply firmly the prescribed torque.
Tightening torque 101 ft. lbs (14 m.kg}
- Oi I the bearings with ESSO EXTRA MOTOR
OIL
20 W 30 1 40
with the exclus ion of any
other lubricont.
ADJUSTMENT OF THE DRIVE PINION
- MESHING DISTANCE
·BEARINGS PRE-LOAD
- Install drive pinion fitted with the following
into the housing ·
- Rear bearing
- Long spacer
- Front bearing {hand fitting)
- Nut

Tightening torque 7.2 ft.lbs (1 m.kg)
- Rotate drive pinion ten turns in both directions
of rotation.
- Repeat operation until nut J con no longer be
tightened under 7.2 ft.lbs (1 m.kg).
