AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE - TROUBLESHOOTING

C H E C K
1. CHECK TRANSAXLE FLUID LEVEL
HINT: The vehicle must have been driven so that the
engine and transaxle ar€ at normal operating tempor-
ature. Transaxlo fluid temDerature: 70-80'C (158-
1 76" F)
(a) Park the vehiclo on a level surface, set the parking
brake.
(b) With the engine idling and the brake pedal doprssssd,
shift tho shift lever into each gear from the P rang€ to
L range smoothly and return to P rangs.
(c) Pull out tho transaxle dipstick and wipe it clean.
(d) Push it back fully into the pipe.
(e) Pull it out and check that th6 fluid level is in ths HOT
range.
lf the level is at the low side of the hot range, add fluid.
Fluid typo:
ATF DEXRONO

NOTICE: Do not ovorfill.
2, CHECK FLUID CONDITION
lf th6 fluid smells burnt or is black, replace it.
3. REPLACE ATF
NOTICE: Do not overfill.
(a) Using 10 mm h€xagon wr€nch r€movs the drain plug,
gaskst and drain ths fluid.
(b) Install a now gasket and the drain plug secursly.
(c) Add new fluid through the filler pipe,
Fluid:
ATF DEXRONO II
Dry fill:
5.6 litor. (5.8 US qtr, 4.9 lmp.qtr)
Drrln and refill:
2.5 literr (2.6 US qt., 2.2 lmp.qrs)
(d) Start the engine and shift th€ soloctor into all posi-
tions from P through L and then shift into P range.
(e) With the engino idling, chock tho fluid level. Add fluid
up to tho COOL level on tho dipstick.
(f) Check the fluid level with the normalfluid temperature
