Using a screwdriver, remove the 3 shifting keys and 2
s p r i n g s f r o m t h e N o . 2 c l u t c h h u b .

INSPECTION

I N S P E C T S Y N C H R O N I Z E R
R I N G S
(a) Check for wear or damage.
(b) Check the braking effoct of the synchronizor ring.
Turn th6 synchronizer ring in one dirEction while push-
ing it to tho gear cone. Check that the ring locks'
lf the braking 6ffect is insufficient, apply a small
a m o u n t o f f i n e l a p p i n g c o m p o u n d b s t w e e n t h e s y n -
c h r o n i z e r r i n g a n d g e a r c o n e .
Lightly rub tho synchronizsr ring and gsar cone to-
gethor.
NOTICE: Ensure tho fine lapping compound is completaly
washed off Efter rubbing.
(c) Check again the braking effsct of the synchronizer
n n g .
(d) Using a feeler gauge, m€asurs the clearance bstween
t h e s y n c h r o n i z o r r i n g b a c k a n d g e a r s p l i n e e n d .
Minimum clearance:
0.6 mm (0.024 in.)
H I N T :

When replacing 6ithsr a synchronizer ring or
g e a r , a p p l y a s m a l l a m o u n t o f f i n e l a p p i n g c o m -
pound between the synchronizer ring and gear
cone.
Lightly rub the synchronizor ring and gear cons
tog6ther.
.
When replacing both the synchronizer ring and
g e a r , t h e r e i s n o n e e d t o a p p l y a n y c o m p o u n d o r
to rub them together.
NOTICE: Ensure tho fine lapping compound is completoly
washed off after rubbing.
