SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM - GENERAL DESCRIPTION
C O N S T R U C T I O N
The supplemental restraint system consists of the airbag
i n s t a l l e d i n t h e s t e e r i n g w h e e l p a d .
This supplemental restraint systsm is a mechanical activation type. The deceleration of the
v e h i c l e i m p a c t d u r i n g a c o l l i s i o n i s d e t e c l o d b y t h e f l o a t i n g b a l l i n s i d e t h e a i r b a g s o n s o r , w h i c h
pushes down on the trigger shaft. This triggsrs the firing pin linked to the triggsr shaft and ignitss
t h e s q u i b o f t h e i n f l a t o r .

The steering whs6l and the ste€ring wheel pad are removed and installed in such a way that th" ffim
sonsor located at the left side of the steering wheol must be loosened first. This automatically
activates the safoty dsvice.
H A N D L I N G P R E C A U T I O N S
Failure to carry out service oparations in ths corroct sequence could cause tho supplemental
restraint systam to unoxpectedly deploy during servicing, possibly leading to a serious accidont
Further, if a mistake is made in servicing th6 supplsmontal rsstraint syst6m, it is possible the SRS
may fail to oparate when required. Before performing servicing (including removal or installation
of parts, inspection or replacement), be sure to read the following items carefully, th€n follow tho
correct procedure dsscribed in th€ ropair manual.

Never disassemble tho stosring wheel pad assembly.

Do not subjoct the stesring wheel pad to shocks or bring magnets closo to it.

Oo not oxposa tho steering wheel pad to high tamperaturos or fire.

lf greasa, cleansr, oil or watei gots on the stoaring wheel pad,promptly wipo it off with a dry cloth.

I 1. The deployed intlator insido the steering whael pad is hot. so dispose of it after it has boen cooled
by atmospheric air. Never apply wator to cool it down.
