ASSEMBLE DIFFERENTIAL CASE
HINT: Coat all of the sliding and rotating surfaces with
gear oil before assembly.
(a) Install the thrust washor and differential side gear to
th€ diff6r6ntial right case.
(b) Install the 3 pinion shafts,4 pinions,4 pinion washErs
and shaft holder.
(c) Using a pin punch, drive in the 3 slottod spring pins to
the d ifferentia I right case.
(d) Using a dial indicator, measure the backlash of pinion
g e a r w h i l e h o l d i n g t h e N o . 2 s h a f t h o l d e r .
Standard backlach:
0.05- 0.20 mm (0.0020-0.0079 In.)
HINT: Push tha pinion g€ar of th€ l€ft side of the
differential case.
(e) Install tho side gear, pinion shafts and shaft holdor
with the 4 pinions to the right sido of the differential
ca sg,
And check tho side gear backlash.
(f) Referring to tha table below, select the thrust washer
which will snsure that the backlash is within specifica-
tion. Try to select a washer of th€ samo sizg.
