– Take circlip out of piston pin boss.
– Drive out piston pin with drift - VW 222A- .
Installation
Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Please note the
following:
Note
Renew bolts that are tightened with specified further tightening
angle.
– Oil running surfaces of bearing shells.
– Install piston using commercially available piston ring clamp;
note installation position
– Install conrod bearing cap; note installation position

Checking pistons and cylinder bores

Checking pistons
– Using a micrometer, measure approx. 10 mm from the lower
edge and perpendicular to the piston pin axis.
Maximum deviation from nominal dimension: -0.04 mm.
Nominal dimension
1)
Dimension (thickness 0.015 mm on each side)
Measuring piston ring gap
– Insert piston ring at right angles from above into the lower cyl‐
inder opening approx. 15 mm from edge of cylinder.
– To check piston ring gap insert a commercially available feeler
gauge into the gap.
– Push in using a piston without piston rings.
