♦ Screwdriver with minimum shaft length of 250 mm (not illus‐
trated)
Removing
Rotate crankshaft to "TDC" as follows:
– Set piston in cylinder no. 1 to TDC position.

– Remove vibration damper
⇒ "1.4 Removing and installing vibration damper", page 41
– Unscrew bolts -arrows-, and remove lower toothed belt guard.
Note
If a used toothed belt runs in the opposite direction when it is

refitted, this can cause breakage.
Before removing, mark direction of rotation of toothed belt with

chalk or felt-tip pen for re-installation.
– Remove plug, and loosen securing bolt of camshaft adjuster
on inlet side by approx. one turn.

– Loosen securing bolt of toothed belt pulley on exhaust side by
approx. one turn
