Measuring axial play of camshaft

♦ Universal dial gauge
bracket - VW 387-
♦ Gauge - VAS 6079-
Checking camshaft axial
play
– Remove camshaft
housing ⇒ page 76 .
– Secure dial gauge -
VAS 6079- to cam‐
shaft housing with
universal dial gauge
bracket - VW 387- as
shown in illustration.
– Press camshaft
against dial gauge by
hand.
– Set gauge to "zero".
– Press camshaft away
from dial gauge and
read off value:
Axial clearance:
• Wear limit: 0.25 mm
