SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
The electric starter is a DC motor with a permanent
magnet and carbon brushes. The geartooth system
of the armature shaft is permanently engaged in the
idler gear. During the starting process the sprag
clutch forms a connection to the crankshaft via the id-
ler gear and free wheel gear. As soon as the engine
speed is higher than the speed generated by the
electric starter, the sprag clutch breaks the
connection.
