Recording a Site Survey without a Map
The Site Survey Tool can record surveys without a map image, but then the survey visualizations, such
as RSSI coverage areas and AP placement tip cannot be used. Working without a map is useful for
quick or site surveys, or whenever a map image is unavailable.
1.
Add a new site survey to the project by selecting File > New... > Survey:
You can rename the survey to describe the survey route or area by clicking the white textbox
next to the Record button.
2.
Double-click the survey name in Browser View to view the survey properties, and select the
Chart Tab. You can alternatively right-click the survey and select View from the context menu.
3.
Click the Signals Tab in the Bottom View to open it.
4.
Click the Record button:
to start recording network data. If you want to take a break, turn off data collection by clicking
the Record button again.
5.
Take your laptop with you and start walking or driving around the facility or area.
6.
Use the Signals Tab to observe how many APs are available at each location, their channel
numbers, and how strong the signals are.
7.
Use the Chart Tab to view the access point RSSI as a chart representation, helping you to spot
changing signal strength.
8.
When you have recorded enough data, click the Record button again to stop recording.
9.
Save project by selecting File > Save.
If a map image is not available, use the Signals Tab and Survey Properties to view the access point
RSSI, SNR, and channel at different locations.
You can also change the survey name or properties to describe the recorded route and data.
