Use your standard WLAN adapter utility to create a suitable profile to survey specific network or 802.11
band (a/b).
Sometimes Windows XP causes configuration profile conflicts with its automatic Zero Configuration. To
turn it off, right-click My Computer on the desktop and select Manage > Services and Applications >
Services. Then open the Wireless Zero Configuration properties and Disable the service.

Changing Adapter Settings
Open the Site Survey Tool and click the Devices Tab to view the available WLAN adapters. Click a
device to see its properties and settings. Different adapters may display different options:

WLAN adapter.

Adapter MAC and IP address are always displayed.
•
Scan Interval is always displayed. Note that even with fastest (0s) setting the adapter will
return new network scan results as quickly as possible. With some adapters this can be less
than a second per 802.11(a/b) band, while others require many seconds per band.
•
802.11a checkbox is displayed only if the active WLAN adapter's configuration profile allows
scanning a-band. Checking this box allows data from 802.11a access points to be observed.

802.11b checkbox is displayed only if the active WLAN adapter's configuration profile allows
scanning b-band. Checking this box allows data from 802.11b access points to be observed.

Scan Mode selection is displayed only when using certain Proxim/Orinoco adapters, such as
Orinoco "Classic" 802.11b adapter. Scan All scans all access points, but cannot detect hidden
networks. Scan Current Profile scans only the network (SSID) specified in the adapter's config-
