3Com Router Command Reference Guide — V1.00
Parameter
ip-address and mask: IP address of the destination and mask, in dotted decimal. The
1s in the 32 bits in the mask are required to be continuous, so the mask in dotted
decimal can be substituted for masklen. The mask length is equivalent to the number
of the continuous 1s in the mask
interface-type: Interface type.
interface-number: Interface number.
nexthop-address IP address of the next hop for this route (dotted decimal).
preference value: Preference value for the router, ranging from 1 to 255. By default, it
is 60.
reject: Indicate a route that is unreachable route.
blackhole : Indicate a route that is a blackhole route.
Description
Using the ip route-static command, you can configure a static route or a default
route. Using the undo form of this command, you can cancel the route.
By default, there is no static route.
When the destination IP address and mask are both 0.0.0.0, a default route is
configured. That is, when routing table search fails, packets are forwarded along this
default route.
The route management policy can be flexibly used for setting different preferences.
When multiple routes bound for the same destination are configured, and if the same
preference is specified, then load sharing can be implemented. If different
preferences are set, then route backup can be achieved.
While configuring a static route, you can specify a TX interface, or a next-hop address.
Which one is to be used depends on the actual situation. Just specify the TX interface
as the interface supporting solution of the network address to the link layer or the
point-to-point interface. As for NBMA interfaces like the interfaces and dialup interface
encapsulated with X.25 or frame relay, they support the point-to-point link, therefore in
addition to configuring an IP route, you need to set up a secondary route at the link
layer, that is, a map from the IP address to the link-layer address (e.g. dialer route ip,
x.25 map ip or fr map ip). In this situation, you can not specify the TX interface by
configuring a static route, and instead need to configure a next-hop IP address.
