GEN5i hard disk and solid state disk technology

The GEN5i supports both standard hard disks as well as solid state disks. Each
technology offers pro's and con's.
Solid state disk have no moving parts and create reliable data storage medium
in environments with higher shock and vibrations. The absence of the moving
disk head also avoids the standard hard disk seek times. Solid state disks
therefore offer a higher continuous streaming rate.
Hard disks have a better price per GByte storage capacity and offer large disk
sizes.
WARNING
Hard disks and solid state disks both require predictive replacement to
minimize the risk of GEN5i down time or of loss of data. See appendix
"Preventive maintenance" on page 499 for more details.
