Ignition switch-ST and inhibitor switch system <A/T>
D The ignition switch-ST inputs a HIGH signal to the engine-A/T-ECU while the
engine is cranking.
The engine-A/T-ECU controls fuel injection, etc. during starting based on this input.
D The inhibitor switch inputs the condition of the select lever, i.e. whether it is in
P or N range or in some other range, to the engine-A/T-ECU.
The engine-A/T-ECU controls the idle speed control (ISC) servo based on this
input.
Check the inhibitor switch.
(Refer to GROUP 23A - On-vehicle Service.)

Measure at the inhibitor switch connector A-89.
D Disconnect the connector, and measure at the harness side.
1. Voltage between 10 and earth (Ignition switch: ON)
OK: System voltage
2. Continuity between 9 and earth
OK: Continuity
3. Voltage between 10 and earth
D Ignition switch: START
D Disconnect engine-A/T-ECU connector.
OK: System voltage

Check the following
connector: A-89
OK
Check trouble symptom.

Check harness wire be-
tween engine-A/T-ECU
and inhibitor switch con-
nector.

Replace the engine-A/T-ECU.
