Temporarily install the bearing on the shift drum.
Turn the outer race of the bearing with your finger.
The bearing should turn smoothly and quietly.
Also check that the bearing inner race fits tightly on
the shift drum.
Remove and discard the bearing if the races do not
turn smoothly, quietly, or if it fits loosely on the shift
drum.
Check the shift drum end for scoring, scratches, or
evidence of insufficient lubrication.
Check the shift drum grooves for abnormal wear or
damage.
Measure the shift drum O.D. at left end.
SERVICE LIMIT: 11.94 mm (0.470 in)
Check the shift drum journal in the left crankcase for
excessive wear or damage.
Measure the shift drum journal I.D.
SERVICE LIMIT: 12.05 mm (0.474 in)
Calculate the shift drum-to-shift drum journal clear-
ance.
SERVICE LIMIT: 0.09 mm (0.004 in)
Install the dowel pins into the cam plate holes.
