LIGHTS/METERS/SWITCHES
VS SENSOR INSPECTION
Support the motorcycle securely and raise the rear
wheel off the ground.
Measure the clearance (air gap) between the VS
sensor and pulser ring at several points by turning
the wheel slowly.
It must be within specification.
STANDARD: 0.2 – 1.2 mm (0.01 – 0.05 in)
The sensor air gap cannot be adjusted.
If it is not within specification, check each installed
part for deformation, looseness and damage.
Inspect the area around the VS sensor:
Check that there is iron or other magnetic deposits
between the pulser ring and VS sensor, and the
pulser ring slots for obstructions.
Check installation condition of the pulser ring or VS
sensor for looseness.
Check the pulser ring and sensor tip for deformation
or damage (e.g., chipped pulser ring teeth).
VS SENSOR REMOVAL/
INSTALLATION
Remove the battery tray (page 17-6).
Disconnect the VS sensor 2P (Orange) connector.
Remove the VS sensor wire harness from the
clamps (page 1-21).
Remove the bolts, clamps and VS sensor.
