Slide the mainshaft base over the mainshaft.

Aftach the mainshaft holder to the mainshaft as fol-
lows:
NOTE:
o Eack-out the mainshaft holder bolt and loosen
the two hex bolts.
. F i t t h e h o l d e r o v e r t h e m a i n s h a f t s o i t s l i p i s
towards the transmission.
. A l i g n t h e m a i n s h a f t h o l d e r ' s l i p a r o u n d t h e
g r o o v e a t t h e i n s i d e o f t h e m a i n s h a f t s p l i n e s ,
then tighten the hex bolts.

Seat the mainshaft fully by tapping its end with a
p l a s t i c h a m m e r .
Thread the mainshaft holder bolt in until it just con-
tacts the wide surface of the mainshaft base.

Zerc a dial gauge on the end of the mainshaft.
Turn the mainshaft holder bolt clockwise; stop turn-
ing when the dial gauge has reached its maximum
m o v e m e n t . T h e r e a d i n g o n t h e d i a l g a u g e i s t h e
amount of mainshaft end plav.
CAUTION: Turning the mainshaft holder bolt more
than 60 degrees after the needle of the dial gauge
stops moving may damage the transmission.

lf the reading is within the standard, the clearance is
correct.
It the reading is not within the standard, recheck the
shim thickness.
Standard: 0.11 - 0.18 mm (0.004 - 0.007 in)
DIAL GAUGE
