Emission Gontrol System
Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) System
Description
T h e P o s i t i v e C r a n k c a s e V e n t i l a t i o n ( P C V ) s y s t e m i s
designed to prevent blow-by gas from escaping to the
a t m o s p h e r e . T h e P C V v a l v e c o n t a i n s a s p r i n g - l o a d e d
plunger. When the engine starts. the plunger in the PCV
valve is lifted in orooonion to intake manifold vacuum and
the blow-by gas is drawn directly into the intake manifold.

Inspection
1. Check the PCV hoses and connections for leaks and

2 . At idie, make sure there is a clicking sound from the
PCV valve when the hose between PCV valve and
intake manilold in lightly pinched with your fingers
o r p l t e r s .
l f t h e r e i s n o c l i c k i n g s o u n d , c h e c k t h e P C V v a l v e
grommet for cracks and damage. lf the grommet is
OK, reolace the PCV valve and recheck.
Gently pinch here.
