C h e c k t h e s o n n e c t i n g r o d b e a r i n g c l e a r a n c e w i t h
plastigage (see page 7-9).
Apply engine oil to the bolt threads, then install the
rod caps with bearings.
I n s t a l l t h e n u t , a n d f i n g e r t i g h t , t h e n s e t t h e b o x
wrench and connecting rod gauge as shown below.

1 . R e m o v e t h e c o n n e c t i n g r o d c a p s , t h e n i n s t a l l t h e
r i n g c o m p r e s s o r , a n d c h e c k t h a t t h e b e a r i n g i s
securely in place.

Position the arrow and the mark facing the timing
belt side ot the engine.
The mark must face
the timing belt side
of the engine.

P o s i t i o n t h e p i s t o n i n t h e c y l i n d e r , a n d t a p i t i n
using the wooden handle of a hammer.
NOTE: Maintain downward force on the ring com-
p r e s s o r t o p r e v e n t r i n g s f r o m e x p a n d i n g b e f o r e
entering the cylinder bore.
Position all pistons at top dead center.
