Emission Control System
Check the vacuum when hot:
1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
2. Block the rear wheels and set
the parking brake.
3. Jack up the front of the vehi-
cle and support it with safety
stands.
4 - S t a r t t h e e n g i n e . H o l d t h e
engine at 3,000 rpm with no
l o a d ( i n P a r k o r n e u t r a l ) u n t i l
the radiator fan comes on, then
let it idle.
5. Check for vacuum at the vac
uum hose with transmission
i n g e a r ( A / T i n E p o s i t i o n ,
M/T in 'l st gear) after starting
rne engrne.
6. Ouickly raise the engine speed
to 3,000 rpm.

Check for an open in the wire llcl
line):
1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
2, Disconnect the 2P connector
from the EVAP purge control
solenoid valve.
3. Turn the ignition switch ON (ll).
4. At the harness side, measure
v o l t a g e b e t w e e n t h e E V A P
purge controlsolenoid valve 2P
c o n n e c t o r t e r m i n a l N o . 1
( B 1 8 C 5 e n g i n e : N o . 2 ) a n d
body ground.

Insp€ct vacuum hose routing.
lf OK, replace the EVAP purge
control solenoid valve.

the EVAP purge control solenoid
valve and the ECM lAl5).
Substitute a known-90od ECM
and recheck. lI symptom/indica-
tion goes away, replace the origi-
nal ECM.
Repair open in the wirc between
E V A P p u r g e c o n t r o l s o l e n o i d
valve and PGM-FI main relav fuse.

Check for an open in the wire
IPCS linel:
1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
2. Reconnect the 2P connector to
the EVAP purge control sole'
noid valve.
3. Turn the ignition switch ON (ll).
