Configuring LAN Adapter Inactivity Time

6. Click on the NIST Browser button to install the NIST MS Browser. This functionality is
required to allow automatic searching of libraries from Xcalibur or layered applications.
Install the NIST Browser according to the installation instructions. The NIST installer
will automatically create the required folders for the browser and demo libraries. For best
operation, do not change the default NIST Browser installation locations.
7. This completes the Xcalibur Core Components installation for GC-MS. To install the
GC and MS drivers that are needed for instrument operation, refer to the installation
instructions that are provided with those discs.
Note The Xcalibur 4.0 Core Components for GC-MS disc also includes the validation
certificate for the Xcalibur core, the release notes for Foundation and Xcalibur and folders
containing the manuals for these products. This content can be explored from the
Xcalibur 4.0 Setup window using the Browse CD and Validation Certificate buttons.
8. Click Exit to leave the Xcalibur 4.0 Setup window.
When the TRACE GC Ultra is equipped with a LAN CPU card, the inactivity timeout
setting needs to be set to 30,000 ms to effectively maintain communication with the software,
even in periods of heavy data processing. Depending on the serial number of your TRACE
GC Ultra, the software tool used to manage the LAN CPU may vary.
To configure the NPort Management Suite
1. Open the NPort Management Suite by selecting Start | All Programs | NPort
Management Suite | Configurator.
2. Click the magnifying glass button on the tool bar or click Locate Server from the menu
to automatically search for the TRACE GC Ultra LAN adapter.
3. Double-click on the IP address for the TRACE GC Ultra to configure the adapter.
4. In the Configuration window, click the OP_mode tab and select the Change OP_mode
checkbox. Then click the More Settings button.
5. In the TCP Server window, set the Inactivity time field to 30,000 ms and click OK.
6. Click OK again to upload these settings to the LAN adapter. When the settings have been
uploaded successfully, you can close the NPort utility and proceed to the Instrument
Configuration process for the TRACE GC Ultra.
To configure the Network Enabler
1. Open the Network Enabler application by selecting Start | All Programs | Network
Enabler.
2. Under Configuration, select Broadcast Search.
