Variable definitions
Use the information in the following table to help you use the trace ethernet command.
port <slot/port> [vlan
<vlan Id>]
Troubleshooting
• In Linux: ./eth-trace-linux [-q -s 0 –n] –i <PC ethernet port
(eg: eth0)> [cpu <base|mezz> ether dst <mac address to be
filtered/decoded>]
• In Solaris: ./eth-trace-solaris [-q -s 0 –n] –i <PC ethernet
port (eg: eth0)> [cpu <base|mezz> ether dst <mac address
to be filtered/decoded>]
Where cpu <base|mezz> is an option that specifies whether or not the test switch
is running with a mezz card, use this to calculate the switch timestamp for each
trace packet.
When Ethernet trace packets are received, the output is displayed on the screen.
You can also redirect the output to a file.
Note:
If you do not specify the cpu <base|mezz> option, the switch timestamp is not
calculated and displayed for each trace message.
trace level
When the switch generates the enabled traces, those traces are seen as Ethernet
trace packets in the packet capture tool or decoded in the Linux or Solaris PC.
test.pcap at the appropriate time AND, in the Linux or Solaris PC, execute the
following with the captured file (test.pcap) as the input.
• In Linux: ./eth-trace-linux [-q -s 0 –n] –r <capture file
name> [ cpu <base|mezz> ether dst <mac address to be
filtered/decoded>]
• In Solaris: ./eth-trace-solaris [-q -s 0 –n] –r <capture file
name> [ cpu <base|mezz> ether dst <mac address to be
filtered/decoded>]
This command decodes the capture file and displays the trace messages per line.
You can also redirect the output to a file.
Variable
Value
Configures the port and the corresponding VLAN on
which the Ethernet trace packets are transmitted.
