6. CHECK EGA VALVE
tal Apply vacuum directly to the EGA valve with the en-
gine idling.
lbl Check that the engine runs rough or dies .
(cl Reconnect the vacuum hoses to the proper location.
IF NO PROBLEM IS FOUND WITH THIS INSPECTION. THE
SYSTEM IS OKAY; OTHERWISE INSPECT EACH PART
INSPECTION OF EGR VACUUM MODULATOR
CHECK EGA VACUUM MODULATOR OPERATION
(a) Disconnect the vacuum hoses from ports P,
Q
and R
of tl'\e EGR vacuum modul ator.
lbl Block ports P and R with your finger.
(c) Slow air into port 0 . Check that the air passes through
to tile air filter side freely.
(dl Start the engine and maintain engine speed at 2,500
rpm.
tel Repeat the above test. Check that there is a strong
resistance to a ir flow.
lfl
Disconnect the vacuum hoses to the proper locations.
If a problem is found, replac.e the EGR vacuum modulator.
INSPECTION OF VSV

CHECK VACUUM CIRCUIT CONTINUITY IN THE VSV BY
BLOWING AIR INTO PIPE
(al Connect the VSV terminal s to the banery terminals
as illustrated.
lbl Blow air into a pipe and check that the VSV is open.
(c) Disconnect the battery.
ldl Blow air into a pipe and check that the VSV is closed.
II a problem is found. replace the VSV.
