REAR AXLE AND SUSPENSION - IRS Type Differential
(c) Install straight pin.
• Using a hammer and punch, drive the straight
through the case and hole in the pinion shaft.
• Stake the pin and differential
case.
7. INSTALL NEW SIDE BEARING
Using SST and a press. drive a new side bearing into it
differential case.
SST 09550-10012
(09252·10010, 09557·10010, 09558· 10010)
8. INSTALL RIN G GEAR ON DIFFERENTIAL CASE
(a) Clun the contact surface of the differential
ea
(b)
Heat the ring gear to about 100'C (212"F) in
and
bath.
(c) Clean the contact surface of the ring gear with elm
ing solvent.
(d) Then quickly Install the ring gear
on
the dlfferenU.
case.
(e) Align the marks on the ring gear and differentialcatt
CAUTION: Do not heat the ring gear more than
IIO'C
(230" F ).
(f)
Coat the ring gear set bolts with gear oil.
(g) Install the lock plates and
set
bolts. Tighten the
1ft
bolts uniformly,
1
little at
a
time. Torque the bola.
Torque: 985 kg-em (71 ft·lb, 97 N·m)
(h) Using a hammer and drift punch, stake the lad<
plates.
NOTE : Stake one claw
flush
with the flat surface
of~
nut. For the claw contacting the protruding portion of~
nut, stake only the holf on the tightening side.
