REAR AXLE AND SUSPENSION - IRS Type Rear Axle Shaft

REMOVE AXLE FLANGE NUT
(a) Using a hammer and chisel. loosen the staked
pan
ol
the nut.
(b) Remove the nut and washer.
NOTE: Be sure to remove the washer from the axle shlft,
If not. the axle flange cannot be removed with SST inllle
next step.

5. REMOVE AXLE FLANGE
Using SST. disconnect the axle flange and the washer.

NOTE: Be careful not to lose the plate washer on thotl!
of the flange bearing side.
6 . REMOVE REAR AXLE SHAFT AND SPACER
Using SST. pull out the rear axle shaft w ith the oil seal llll
outer bearing.

7 . REMOVE INNER OI L SEAL AND BEAR ING
(a) Using SST. pull out the inner oil seal from rear
m
housing.

(b) Remove the inner bearing.
8. REMOVE INSIDE BEAR ING OUTER RACE
(a) Using a brass bar. remove
the
bearing outer race frooo
the rear axle housing.
(b) If necessary. replace the outer race.
