CHECK
BOOT
AND CLAMP

Check to see that
the
outboard joint slides smoothly
in the thrust
direction,
Check
to
see that there is no remarkable play in
the
radial direction
of
the
outboard joint.
(b)
Check to see that there is no remarkable play
in
the
radial
direction of the
inboard
joint.

DISASSEMBLE FOUR BOOT CLAMPS OF
OUTBOARD
AND
INBOARD
JOINTS
NOTE:
Slide
the clamp toward the drive shaft and
remove
it.
3.
SLIDE
BOOTS AT
CENTER
OF SHAFT
4.
REMOVE OUTBOARD JOINT OUTER RACE
(a)
Remove the snap ring
.
(b)
Place matchmarks
on
the outer race and
drive
shaf
t.
NOTE
:
Do
not
use a
punch.
(e)
Remove
the outer race to the drive shaft.
NOTE:
If
the end
cover
is
damaged
or worn.
replace
it.
6,
REMOVE OUTBOARD JOINT INNER RACE
Ia)
Using a
plastic
hammer,
remove the balls
by
lightly
tapping on the outer
C:ircumference of the
cage
in
the
shah axial
direction.
(b)
lower
the
cage to the inboard
side.
