AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION - Stall Test
STALL TEST
The object of this test is
t0CH8ck
the overall performance of the transmission and engine by measuring
the
maximum engine speeds at the "D" and "R" ranges.
CAUTION:
(al Perlonn the test at normal Opat&tlon fluid tem-
perature 150- 80°C or 122 - 176°FI.
lbl Do not continuously run this test longer then
5 seconds.
MEASURE STALL SPEED
lal Chock the f our wheels.
(bl Mount an engine tachometer.
lei Fully apply the parking brake.
(d) Step down strongly on the brake pedal with
your left foot.
lei Start the engine.
(f)
Shif t into "D" range. Step all the way down
on the accelerator pedal with your right foot .
Quickly read the h ighest engine rpm at this
time.
Stall speed: 2, 100
±
150 rpm
(g) Perform the same test in "R" range.
EVALUATION
Ia I If the engine speed is the same for both ranges
but lower than specified value:
• Engine output is insufficient.
• Stator one-way clutch is not operating
properl y.
NOTE: If more than 600 rpm below the specifiOd
value. the torque converter could be at fault:
lbl If the st all speed in "D" range is h igher than
specified:
• Line pressure too low
• Front clutch slipping
• One·way clutch No. 2 not operating •
properly
• OD one-way clutch not operating prope.ty ·
lei If the stall speed in "R" range is h igher than
specified:
• Line pressure too low
• Rear clutch slipping
• Brake No. 3 slipping
• 00

• Line pressure too low
• Improper fluid level
