a. Fuel Lift Pump Removal
1. Remove engine side battery box cover (18). Remove
wing nuts (19) and carriage bolts (20) and set cover
and mounting hardware aside for later re-assembly.
2. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable (21) at the
negative (-) terminal on the battery in the engine side
battery box.
3. Disconnect the negative (-) cable (22) at the bottom
of the battery equalizer (23).

4. Clean debris from around the lift pump (14).
5. Disconnect the fuel inlet line (13).
6. Remove the capscrews (17), gasket, and fuel lift
pump (14).

b. Cleaning and Drying
Clean the exterior of the pump with mineral spirits and
blow dry with compressed air.
Note: Parts replacement is not practical. The fuel lift
pump is serviced as an entire assembly.
c. Fuel Lift Pump Installation
1. Clean the mounting surface on the cylinder block.
2. Install the fuel lift pump (14) with a new gasket. Install
and torque the capscrews (5) to 18 lb/ft (24 Nm).
3. Connect the fuel line (13). Vent air from fuel system
(refer to Section 2.13.7, d. Venting Air from the Fuel
System) .
4. Connect the negative (-) battery cable (21) at the
negative (-) terminal on the battery in the engine side
battery box.
5. Connect the negative (-) battery equalizer cable (22)
at the bottom of the battery equalizer (23). Torque
the nut to a maximum of 100 lbs/in (11 Nm).
6. Replace engine side battery box cover (18). Use the
wing nuts (19) and carriage bolts (20) to secure the
cover in place.

tion on removing and replacing the fuel filter (16).
