4. Carefully pry the horn button cover (14) out of its
recess in the steering wheel. Disconnect the horn
switch lead (28).
5. Mark the steering wheel and shaft to ensure proper
installation. Remove the M18-1,5 thin nut (15)
securing the steering wheel (16) to the splined
steering column shaft.
6. Use a steering wheel puller to remove the steering
wheel (16) from the splined shaft.
b. Steering Wheel Installation
1. Install the steering wheel (16) onto the splined
steering column shaft.
2. Secure the steering wheel with a M18-1,5 thin
nut (15). Torque the nut to 50 lb/ft (68 Nm).
3. Connect the horn wire lead (28), then press the horn
button cover (14) into its recess in the steering
wheel.
4. Connect the negative (-) battery cable (11) at the
negative (-) terminal on the battery in the engine side
battery box.
5. Connect the negative (-) battery equalizer cable (12)
at the bottom of the battery equalizer (13). Torque
the nut to a maximum of 100 lbs/in (11 Nm).
6. Replace battery box cover (8). Use the wing nuts (9)
and carriage bolts (10) to secure the cover in place.
c. Transmission Range Selector and
Turn Signal/Lights Lever Removal
1. Remove engine side battery box cover (8). Remove
wing nuts (9) and carriage bolts (10) and set cover
and mounting hardware aside for later re-assembly.
2. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable (11) at the
negative (-) terminal on the battery in the engine side
battery box.
3. Disconnect the negative (-) cable (12) at the bottom
of the battery equalizer (13).
4. Remove the three #12-14 x 1" self-drilling screws
(31)(one screw not visible in illustration) securing the
lower dash cover (32) to the cab.
5. Remove the lower dash cover (32).

6. Label and disconnect the transmission range
selector and turn signal/lights lever wiring
connectors (33).
