Service Brake Pedal Replacement

a. Service Brake Pedal Removal
1. Park the vehicle on a firm, level surface. Allow
sufficient overhead and side clearance for cab
removal. Level the vehicle, ground the attachment,
place the travel select lever in the [N] NEUTRAL
position, place the neutral lock lever in the [N]
NEUTRAL LOCK position, engage the parking brake
switch and shut the engine OFF. Open the engine
hood. Allow the engine and hydraulic fluid to cool.
2. Remove engine side battery box cover (1). Remove
wing nuts (2) and carriage bolts (3) and set cover
and mounting hardware aside for later re-assembly.
3. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable (4) at the
negative (-) terminal on the battery in the engine side
battery box.
4. Disconnect the negative (-) cable (5) at the bottom of
the battery equalizer (6).

5. Remove the three self-drilling screws (7) (one screw
not visible in illustration) securing the lower dash
cover (8) to the cab.
6. Remove the lower dash cover (8).

7. Remove the spring (9) from the pin in the steering
column (10) and the hole in the service brake pedal
assembly (11).
8. Remove the snap ring (12) on one end of the brake
pedal shaft (13).
9. Carefully slide the shaft out of the brake pedal,
making sure to mark all shims (14 and 15) for correct
re-assembly order.
10. Remove the service brake pedal assembly (11) from
between the two steering column plates (16 and 17).
11. Inspect the two bushings (18) and the roller (19) for
wear. Replace if necessary.
b. Service Brake Pedal Installation
1. Remove all necessary pieces from the old service
brake pedal assembly and mount onto the new
service brake pedal assembly.
2. Position the service brake pedal assembly (11) in its
mounting location between the two steering column
plates (16 and 17).
3. Slide the brake pedal shaft (13) through the hole in
the steering column plate (16 or 17) and the service
brake pedal assembly (11), making sure that the
shims (14 and 15) are placed in the same order as
noted during removal.
