4. Remove the cab side battery box cover (1). Remove
wing nuts (2) and carriage bolts (3) and set cover
and mounting hardware aside for later re-assembly.
5. Disconnect the positive (+) battery cable (4) at the
positive (+) terminal on the battery in the cab side
battery box.

6. Disconnect the positive (+) battery cable (12) at the
positive (+) terminal on the battery in the engine side
battery box.
7. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable (5) from the
cab side battery.
8. Remove the battery hold down strap (6) on each
battery. Remove the two locknuts (7), flat
washers (8), carriage bolts (9) and hold down
strap (6).

9. Carefully slide the battery (10) out of the battery
box (11) and remove the battery from the vehicle.
Note: The best time to clean the battery compartment is
when the battery is removed from the vehicle.
h. Battery Inspection, Cleaning and Drying
1. Periodically inspect the battery for accumulation of
dirt or corrosion on the battery, terminals, cable
ends, and battery retaining hardware. Also check
that the battery case and cover are not cracked or
leaking, and that the terminal posts are not broken or
loose.
2. Prepare a mixture of baking soda and water and
obtain a non-metallic scrub brush. Dip the brush in
the mixture and scrub the battery and cable
terminals. Also clean the battery mounting area on
the vehicle frame before replacing the battery.
3. Dry the battery with a clean, lint-free cloth.

i. Battery Installation
1. Carefully slide the battery (10) into the battery
box (11).
2. Install the battery hold down strap (6). Use two
carriage bolts (9), flat washers (8) and locknuts (7)
for each battery hold down strap. Attach the strap
properly to help prevent the battery from shifting,
moving and vibrating. Vibration is harmful to a
battery. DO NOT overtighten the fasteners.
3. Connect the negative (-) battery cable (5) to the cab
side battery.
4. Connect the positive (+) battery cable (12) at the
positive (+) terminal on the battery in the engine side
battery box.
5. Connect the positive (+) battery cable (4) at the
positive (+) terminal on the battery in the cab side
battery box.
6. Replace the cab side battery box cover (1). Secure
in place using wing nuts (2) and carriage bolts (3).
