b. Fork side Shift Cylinder Disassembly
1. Clean the fork side shift cylinder (15) with a suitable
cleaner. Remove all dirt, debris and grease from the
cylinder.
IMPORTANT: Avoid using excess force when clamping
the cylinder in a vise. Apply only enough force to hold the
cylinder securely. Excessive force can damage the cylin-
der tube (16).
2. Secure the fork side shift cylinder (15) in a soft-
jawed vise or other holding device, and place a
suitable container beneath the cylinder to catch
hydraulic fluid run-off.
3. Extend the cylinder rod by hand to expose part of the
tube rod (17). While holding the tube rod securely,
use a pin spanner wrench to remove the guide (18)
from the end of the tube rod. Unthread the guide
from the tube rod. Carefully slide the guide off the
end of the rod (19).
IMPORTANT: Protect the finish on the rod at all times.
Damage to the rod can cause premature seal failure.

IMPORTANT: When sliding the rod assembly in the tube
rod, DO NOT damage the piston end of the rod assem-
bly (19) by scraping it against the threads in the tube rod.
Keep the rod assembly in line with the tube rod to pre-
vent binding.
4. Carefully withdraw the rod assembly (19) straight out
of the tube rod (17). Keep the rod assembly straight
during withdrawal to help avoid scratching, nicking or
damaging the tube rod.
5. Remove the three cast iron piston rings (20) from the
piston end of the rod assembly (19).
6. Remove the o-ring (21) and back-up ring (22) from
the guide (18).
7. Remove the AN series wiper ring (23) from the
inside front edge of the guide (18).
