10.13.20 Hourmeter

The hourmeter (1) is a non-repairable instrument that
records hours of vehicle engine operation in tenth of an
hour increments and is located just to the left of the dash
panel. The hourmeter is an analog device, similar to an
odometer, and will display 99,999.9 hours before reset-
ting to zero. If trouble is suspected, time the hourmeter for
six minutes to verify that a tenth of an hour has been re-
corded. The meter is secured to the dashboard with two
screws; there are two wires at the rear of the meter; one
is connected to a sensor on the engine, the other pro-
vides grounding.

a. Hourmeter Removal
1. Remove engine side battery box cover (2). Remove
wing nuts (3) and carriage bolts (4) and set cover
and mounting hardware aside for later re-assembly.
2. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable (5) at the
battery negative (-) terminal on the battery in the
engine side battery box.
3. Disconnect the negative (-) cable (6) at the bottom of
the battery equalizer (7).

4. Remove the two screws securing the hourmeter (1)
to the dash console. Gently begin removing the
hourmeter from the dashboard until the two wires
are visible. Note or label the wires respective of their
colors and locations. Disconnect (unplug) both wire
terminals at the rear of the hourmeter.
b. Hourmeter Installation
1. Attach the black and green wires to the wire
terminals at the rear of the meter.
2. Insert the hourmeter (1) into the opening in the left
side of the dash console. Secure with two screws.

3. Connect the negative (-) battery cable (5) at the
battery negative (-) terminal on the battery in the
engine side battery box.
4. Connect the negative (-) battery equalizer cable (6)
at the bottom of the battery equalizer (7). Torque the
nut to a maximum of 100 lbs/in (11 Nm).
5. Replace engine side battery box cover (2). Use the
wing nuts (3) and carriage bolts (4) to secure the
cover in place.
6. Start the engine. Observe the hourmeter for function
with the engine running to verify operation. Time the
hourmeter for six minutes to verify that a tenth of an
hour has been recorded.
