10.12.11 Cab Heater/Air Conditioning Controls

Note: If the suspect component is found to be within the
heater box, the heater box must be removed as a
complete unit and replaced. Refer to Section 3.4, Cab
Heater/Air Conditioning Blower Box.

The cab heater and air conditioning controls (10) are
located directly below the vehicles Capacity Chart
Booklet. From left to right the control panel consists of: a
temperature control knob (11), an A/C on-off rocker
switch (12) and a variable speed fan control knob (13).
a. Cab Heater Controls Removal
Note: After determining which control knob is not
functioning, remove only the suspect control knob. In
order to remove either control, the cab heater and fan
control panel must be removed from the dash panel.
1. Remove engine side battery box cover (15). Remove
wing nuts (16) and carriage bolts (17) and set cover
and mounting hardware aside for later re-assembly.
2. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable (18) at the
battery negative (-) terminal on the battery in the
engine side battery box.
3. Disconnect the negative (-) cable (19) at the bottom
of the battery equalizer (20).

4. Remove the setscrew from the variable speed fan
control knob (13) or temperature control knob (11).
5. Remove the screws (14) and backing locknuts from
the cab heater and fan control panel (10).
6. Pull the control panel out from the dash panel, and if
removing variable speed fan control (13), remove the
cab harness connector.
7. If removing the temperature control knob (11),
disconnect the cable connector and remove control
knob.
8. Remove the hex locknut from the suspect control
shaft.
9. Remove the control from the panel.
10. If removing the air conditioning rocker switch label
and disconnect the cab harness connector. Carefully
pry the switch out of the mounting hole.
b. Disassembly
DO NOT disassemble the cab heater and air conditioning
variable speed fan, temperature controls or the air condi-
tioning switch. The controls and switch are not service-
able. Replace controls or switch if found to be defective.
