29. Reposition the sling at the approximate center of the
inner boom, and then continue withdrawing the boom
until it clears the vehicle.
30. Carefully lower the inner boom onto suitable
supports, or to the ground.

31. Inspect the boom and welds. Contact the JLG
Service Department or the local JLG Authorized
Service Center (ASC) if structural damage is
detected.
32. Inspect hoses, hardware, wear pads, mounting
points, chains and other components visible with the
inner boom removed. Replace if damaged.
b. Inner Boom Installation
WARNING:

IMPORTANT: Light lubrication of the boom wear sur-
faces with a rust inhibitor/lubricant such as LPS 3 or
equivalent is recommended to keep the boom wear sur-
faces lubricated properly. Light lubrication of the boom
wear surfaces is also recommended in salt air climates,
and when the vehicle is stored, to help prevent rusting.
1. Place the extend chains and clevis, as an assembly,
onto the top of the inner boom and allow the chains
and clevis to overhang the gooseneck. DO NOT
allow the chain to twist or kink.

2. Use a suitable overhead lifting device and sling
attached to the inner boom (7). Remove slack from
the hoist or sling. Raise the inner boom and begin
inserting it into the intermediate boom (8) at the front
of the vehicle.
3. Readjust the position of the sling as needed to help
balance the boom during installation. Insert the inner
boom into the intermediate boom until the gooseneck
is approximately two feet (610 mm) from the
intermediate boom. Make sure to pull the wires
attached to the attachment tilt and fork side shift
hoses.
4. Install lower wear pads and spacers at the front of the
intermediate boom. Coat the wear pad capscrews with

Loctite
242 (blue). DO NOT allow Loctite
into contact with wear pads.
