9. Connect the negative (-) battery cable (8) at the
negative (-) terminal on the battery in the engine side
battery box.
10. Connect the negative (-) battery equalizer cable (9)
at the bottom of the battery equalizer (10). Torque
the nut to a maximum of 100 lbs/in (11 Nm).
11. Replace engine side battery box cover (11). Use the
wing nuts (12) and carriage bolts (13) to secure the
cover in place.

Slip Yokes

a. Slip Yoke Inspection
IMPORTANT: To help ensure optimum performance, the
drive shaft assemblies are specially balanced as a unit at
the factory. When servicing any flange yoke, slip yoke or
drive shaft tube, order a complete assembly if compo-
nents are bent or damaged. Refer to the appropriate
parts manual for ordering information.
Replace slip yokes if worn or damaged.
b. Slip Yoke Removal and Replacement
1. Remove the cross and bearing assembly securing
the slip yoke to the flange yoke (refer to Section
6.4.4, Drive Shaft Disassembly, Steps 3-6).
2. Remove the dust cap (18 or 24), split retaining ring
(19 or 25) and felt seal (20 or 26) from the end of the
slip yoke (21 or 27).
3. Remove the slip yoke (21 or 27), from the drive shaft
(22 or 28).

c. Slip Yoke Installation
1. Install the dust cap (18 or 24), split retaining ring
(19 or 25), and felt seal (20 or 26) on the drive shaft
(22 or 28).
2. Install the slip yoke (21 or 27), onto the drive shaft
splines.
3. Install the cross and bearing assembly securing the
slip yoke to the flange yoke.
4. Apply grease to grease fitting (23 or 29). (Refer to
Section 2.6.8, Drive Shaft Splines .)
