2. Connect the negative (-) battery cable (7) at the
battery negative (-) terminal on the battery in the
engine side battery box.
3. Connect the negative (-) battery equalizer cable (8)
at the bottom of the battery equalizer (9). Torque the
nut to a maximum of 100 lbs/in (11 Nm).
4. Replace engine side battery box cover (4). Use the
wing nuts (5) and carriage bolts (6) to secure the
cover in place.
5. Clear the area around the vehicle of personnel and
any obstructions to vehicle travel.
6. Start the engine, allow it to reach operating
temperature, and observe the operator's display
panel for sender indication. If the sender is not
defective, the problem could be elsewhere; possibly
in a shorted wire, improper-running engine, defective
display, etc.
10.13.16 Engine Coolant
High Temperature Sender
The engine coolant high temperature sender (10) is
threaded into the engine block (11) and is connected (12)
via the engine wiring harness, bulkhead connector and
cab wiring harness to the operator's display panel.

When the engine coolant temperature exceeds normal
limits and rises above 210° F (99° C), the sender heats
up, closing contacts within the sending unit. The opera-
tor's display panel indicator (13) illuminates and an audi-
ble alarm will sound. When the engine coolant
temperature is below 210° F (99° C), the contacts within
the sending unit open and the operator's display panel in-
dicator and alarm turn OFF. (Refer to Section 10.9.1, En-

a. Engine Coolant High Temperature Sender Removal
1. Remove engine side battery box cover (4). Remove
wing nuts (5) and carriage bolts (6) and set cover
and mounting hardware aside for later re-assembly.
2. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable (7) at the
battery negative (-) terminal on the battery in the
engine side battery box.
3. Disconnect the negative (-) cable (8) at the bottom of
the battery equalizer (9).
4. Unplug the engine coolant high temperature sender
connector (12) from the wiring harness connector.
5. The sender (10) is threaded into the engine block
(11). Remove the sender.
