b. Fork Side Shift Cylinder Disassembly
Note: An additional o-ring may be included at the base
of the cylinder rod. This additional o-ring may be dis-
carded, as it served only in a temporarily protective role.
1. Clean the fork side shift cylinder (1) with a suitable
cleaner. Remove all dirt, debris and grease from the
cylinder.
IMPORTANT: Avoid using excess force when clamping
the cylinder in a vise. Apply only enough force to hold the
cylinder securely. Excessive force can damage the cylin-
der tube (2).
2. Secure the fork side shift cylinder (1) in a soft-jawed
vise or other holding device, and place a suitable
container beneath the cylinder to catch hydraulic
fluid run-off.
3. Remove the setscrew (3) from the flange of the
guide (4).
4. Use a pin spanner wrench to unthread the guide (4)
from the tube (2). Carefully slide the guide off the
end of the rod (5).

5. Remove the HD rod wiper (6) from the front inner
edge of the guide (4).
6. Remove the o-ring (7) and back-up ring (8) from the
guide (4).
7. Remove the U cup seal (9) from the rear inside edge
of the guide (4).
IMPORTANT: When sliding the rod and piston assembly
in the tube, DO NOT damage the piston (12) by scraping
it against the threads in the tube. Keep the rod in line
with the tube to prevent binding.
8. Carefully withdraw the rod (5) straight out of the
tube (2). Keep the rod straight during withdrawal to
help avoid scratching, nicking or damaging the tube.
9. Carefully slide the rod spacer (10) off the rod (5).
10. Secure the hex portion of the rod and remove the
locknut (11) from the threaded end of the rod. Discard
the nut, a new nut will be required for reassembly.
