Transmission: ZF 4 WG-98 TS
IMPORTANT: To help ensure optimum performance, the
drive shaft assemblies are specially balanced as a unit at
the factory. Mark the drive shaft yoke at the transmission
for return to its original position.
32. The drive shaft assembly is a balanced assembly.
Mark the yoke and transmission, transfer case, and
the shaft and slip yoke so that these components
can be returned to their original positions when
reinstalled. Yokes at both ends of the drive shaft
must be in the same plane to help prevent excessive
vibration.
33. Remove the eight [4-Front & 4-Rear] capscrews (1),
sixteen [8-Front & 8-Rear] lockwashers (2) and eight
nuts (3) securing the flange yokes to the transfer box
and transmission.
34. Remove the drive shaft assembly (4).

35. Remove the rubber plug (5) from the flywheel
housing, above the starter motor. Insert an engine
barring tool (such as a Blue Point p/n YA 95655) into
the opening. The tool will be used to advance, then
lock, the flywheel to permit removal of the capscrews
and washers securing the transmission drive plate to
the flywheel.

36. Working through the flywheel access hole on the

flywheel housing, remove the four capscrews (6)
securing the converter diaphragms to the engine
flywheel. Use the engine barring tool to prevent the
flywheel from turning while removing the capscrews.
Use the engine barring tool to rotate the flywheel to
allow the access to the capscrews as needed.
