1. Park the vehicle on a firm, level surface, fully retract
all hydraulic cylinders, ground the attachment (if
any), place the travel select lever in [N] NEUTRAL,
place the neutral lock lever in the [N] NEUTRAL LOCK
position, engage the park brake switch and shut the
engine OFF.
2. Place an Accident Prevention Tag on both the
ignition switch and the steering wheel, stating that
the vehicle should not be operated. Refer to Section
1.5, Accident Prevention Tag Usage .
WARNING:
cause severe burns. Wait for hydraulic fluid to
cool before servicing any hydraulic component.
3. Unlatch and open the engine cover. Allow the
hydraulic fluid to cool.

5. Remove the cylinder rod end pawl (4) from the rod of
the cylinder being removed. The cylinder rod end
pawl has Loctite applied to the threads. Heat the
pawl to remove it.
Note: Heating the cylinder rod end pawl to approxi-
mately 300° F (150° C) will be required to break the seal
formed by the Loctite Threadlocker #277 (red) applied to
the threads of the cylinder rod. Avoid overheating or the
parts may become distorted or damaged. Apply suffi-
cient torque or pressure for removal while the parts are
still hot.
Breakdown of sealant will leave a white, powdery residue
on threads and parts. Clean the residue away with a soft
brass wire brush prior to reassembly, and wipe with Loc-
tite "T" cleaner before reinstallation.
6. When the pawl is being heated the pawl pads (5) will
be loosened by the heat and will fall out of the
pockets in the pawl. New pawl pads will be required
for reassembly.
7. Turn the hex on the cylinder rod (6) with a open end
wrench to remove the cylinder rod end pawl (4).
Thread the pawl all the way off the cylinder rod. The
pawl is flat on the backside, this flat side will hold the
pawl from turning while turning the rod.
