CAUTION:
engine after an equalizer installation, be sure
that both batteries are charged. The high start-
ing current can cause the charged battery to
reverse the voltage on a discharged battery.
With the equalizer connected normally, it then
"sees" a reverse power connection. Protection
diodes inside the equalizer will then act to
"blow" one of the fuses, or generate excessive
heat.
Any 12V accessories, gauges, etc. connected
to the discharged battery during starting, will
also have the reverse voltage applied to their
power connections. This may result in damage
to these items.
46. Connect the negative (-) battery cable (29) at the
negative (-) terminal on the battery in the engine side
battery box.
47. Connect the negative (-) battery equalizer cable (30)
at the bottom of the battery equalizer (31). Torque
the nut to a maximum of 100 lbs/in (11 Nm).
48. Replace engine side battery box cover (32). Use the
wing nuts (33) and carriage bolts (34) to secure the
cover in place.
WARNING:
electric storage batteries contains sulfuric acid,
a POISON that can cause SEVERE
CHEMICAL BURNS. Avoid all contact of fluid
with eyes, skin or clothing. Use proper
protective gear when handling batteries. DO
NOT tip a battery beyond a 45° angle in any
direction. If contact with battery fluid does
occur, follow the First Aid suggestions in the
