Appendix
Chapter 1. Network Installation Specification
When remote repeaters are to be used, the following points should be noted.
(13) Only a single-port transceiver should be used for connection to the remote repeater.
(14) The SQE switch of the transceiver for connection to the repeater should be turned OFF.
(15) It should be always confirmed that a remote repeater is powered on when it is used (up and
running around the clock, or powered on when used). In addition, sufficient installation
space should be secured during installation of the remote repeater to facilitate its operation.
(16) For fiber optic cable hookup, service of an outside expert should be sought.
Precautions for using a 10BaseT system with HUB/MAU
(1)
The HI-C654 has no 10BaseT connector. Use the MAU instead.
(2)
The SQE switch on the MAU should be set to ON.
(3)
Due to its shape, the HI-C654 does not accept large MAU devices. Use only a recommended
MAU device.
(4)
All devices, including the HI-C654 and the OD-F614, should be connected using HUBs and
twisted pair cable (see Fig. 4, Hub Connection Setup No. 1).
(5)
The SQE switch on the transceiver used to connect to the HUB should be turned OFF.
(6)
It should be always confirmed that the HUB is powered on when it is used (Up and running
around the clock, or powered on when used). In addition, sufficient installation space should
be secured during installation of the HUB to facilitate its operation.
(7)
No more than four HUBs should be used to connect any two stations (see Fig. 5, Hub
Connection Setup No. 2).
(8)
The maximum length of twisted pair cable is 100 m.
(9)
10BaseT twisted pair cable is more susceptible to noise than 10Base5 cable. Avoid locations
where high-voltage cables are present.
An example of network implementation is shown in Fig. 1 to Fig. 4. A portion surrounded by dotted line
represents a scope of work.
4. Acceptance After Work
The receiving inspection after installation includes the following tests. The equipment is not accepted
unless the tests return acceptable results. Test (2) is taken from Showa Electric Wire & Cable Co., while
tests (2) and (3) are taken from Allied Telesys. Perform Test (1) when necessary.
(1)
TDR (Time-Domain Reflector) Test
<Description>
A coaxial cable will be checked for any break or twist.
(2)
Transceiver Continuity Test
<Description>
Continuity will be checked between a tap portion of a transceiver and a coaxial cable.
(3)
Communication Test Between Terminals or Between Coaxial Cables
<Description>
Bidirectional tests will be conducted between terminals or between coaxial cables to check
whether communication is possible therebetween.
