Maintenance 11. Installing Software for GX260 Series Control Unit
11.1
Installing Windows XP
Preparation
To install Windows XP, it is necessary to startup from the CD-ROM using the
"OPERATING SYSTEM Reinstallation CD" enclosed with the control unit (PC).
Use the setup utility (BIOS) to set for start up from the CD-ROM.
Outline of procedure is shown below.
CAUTION
Do not change the settings of items that are not specified, using the setup
utility (BIOS). If items that are not specified are changed, the system may
not operate properly.

When "F2=Setup" appears at the top right of the screen displaying the "DELL
logo mark" after switching on the power to the control unit, press <F2> key.
→ The setup utility (BIOS) screen appears.

Select [Boot Sequence] using <↑> or <↓> key, and press <Enter> key.
(3)
Note down the contents of current [Boot Sequence] (startup order) in a
memorandum in order to recover the settings after installation of Windows
XP is complete.

Select [IDE CD-ROM Device] using <↑> or <↓> key, and set [IDE CD-ROM
Device] at the top using <–> (minus/move upwards) or <+> (plus/move
downwards) key.

After checking that [Save Changes and Exit] is selected on the termination
window of the setup utility (BIOS), which is displayed by pressing <Esc> key
twice, then press <Enter> key.
→ The setup utility (BIOS) finishes and system restarts.

To continue installing Windows XP after restarting is complete, insert the
"OPERATING SYSTEM Reinstallation CD" into the CD-ROM drive.
Perform the following steps after (8) if installation of Windows XP is not to be
performed.

When the CD-ROM is inserted, the [Welcome to Microsoft Windows XP]
window appears. Click [Exit] to close the window.

Click the [Start] on the Windows desktop, then click [Turn off computer].
(9)
From the [Turn off computer] window, click [Turn off] to switch off the power
to the control unit.
