Configuration Guide - Network Management
l
LLDP Agent
An LLDP agent manages LLDP operations for an interface.
An LLDP agent performs the following tasks:
l
l
l
l
l
LLDP Management Address
The LLDP management address (hereinafter referred to as the management address) is used by
the NMS to identify the S9300 and implement network management. The management address
identifies a device. This facilitates layout of the network topology and network management
with a clear view of the topology status. The management address is contained in the
management address Type-Length-Value (TLV) field in an LLDP packet to be transmitted to
neighbor stations.
LLDP Traps
When the LLDP local system MIB or the LLDP remote system MIB changes, the S9300 sends
trap messages to the NMS for updating the topology. The trap messages can be triggered in the
following cases:
l
l
l
The LLDP trap functions globally on the S9300. That is, the trap function takes effect on all the
interfaces.

4.3 Configuring LLDP

This section describes how to configure LLDP.
4.3.1 Establishing the Configuration Task
4.3.2 (Optional) Enabling the LLDP Trap Function
To send traps to the NMS when the neighbor information changes, you need to enable the LLDP
trap function on the switch. Do as follows on Switch A and Switch B.
Issue 03 (2010-09-20)
The LLDP remote system MIB stores information about neighbor stations, including the
chassis ID, interface number, system name, system description, interface description,
system capability, and management address.
Maintains current information in the LLDP local system MIB.
Obtains and sends LLDP local system MIB information to neighbor stations when the status
of the local device changes. An LLDP agent also obtains and sends LLDP local system
MIB information to neighbor stations at regular intervals when no status change occurs on
the local device.
Identifies and processes received LLDP packets.
Maintains current information in the LLDP remote system MIB.
Sends LLDP traps to the NMS when the status of the LLDP local system MIB or the LLDP
remote system MIB changes.
LLDP is enabled or disabled globally.
The local management address changes.
The information about neighbor stations changes. If the management address of a neighbor
station is changed, no trap message is sent.
