SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
The electric starter is a DC motor with a perma-
nent magnet and carbon brushes. The gear-
tooth system of the armature shaft is perma-
nently engaged in the idler gear. During the star-
ting process the sprag clutch forms a connection
to the crankshaft via the idler gear and free
wheel gear. As soon as the engine speed is
higher than the speed generated by the electric
starter, the sprag clutch breaks the connection.
