MAINTENANCE

WATER PASSAGE CLEANING

Flush the cooling system as follows.
Do not run the motor when flushing with a garden hose
or the motor may be damaged.
For safety, remove the emergency stop switch clip so
the engine cannot be started while you are standing
near the propeller.
Disconnect the flush port connector [1].
Screw the flush port connector [1] onto the garden hose
[2].
Turn on the fresh water supply and flush the outboard
motor for at least 10 minutes.
After flushing, disconnect the garden hose and
reconnect the flush port connector.

WATER PUMP INSPECTION

Place the outboard motor in a test tank or connect an
external water supply to the water inlet.
Start the engine and idle the engine in neutral.
Water should flow from the cooling system indicator
while the engine is running.
If water stops flowing while the engine is running,
inspect the water pump and water passage (page 11-
9).

IMPELLER HOUSING INSPECTION

Remove the impeller housing (page 11-9).
Make sure that the vertical shaft bush cooling passage
[1] of the impeller housing [2] is not clogged.
