TIMING BELT INSPECTION

INSPECTION
Remove the timing belt cover (page 14-6).
Check the timing belt [1] for wear and damage.
Replace the timing belt if it is worn or damaged.
Check the timing belt and the related parts for oil and
grease.
If contaminated with oil or grease, clean the parts and
replace the timing belt.
Make any necessary repairs to eliminated the source of
oil, grease, or coolant.
Turn the crankshaft clockwise to align the timing belt
driven pulleys' No. 1 TDC marks with the marks of the
timing belt back cover (page 3-15).
Slowly turn the crankshaft pulley counterclockwise five
teeth of the timing belt driven pulley gear.
Apply a force of 19.6 N (2 kgf, 4.4 lbf), and measure the
deflection at the mid point between the left side timing
belt driven pulley [1] and idler pulley B [2].
DEFLECTION: 8.8 – 9.7 mm (0.35 – 0.38 in)
ADJUSTMENT
Turn the crankshaft clockwise to align the timing belt
driven pulleys' No. 1 TDC marks with the marks of the
timing belt back cover (page 3-15).
Remove the cap [1] and loosen the timing belt tensioner
bolt [2] about one or one and a half turns.
