GEAR CASE (COUNTER ROTATION)
Measure the height (E'') of the taper roller bearing
(outer race [1]) using a regular vernier caliper [2], and
record it.
Calculate the length from the inner race end to the outer
race end (E) by determining the gap between the
measurements E' and E'' using the following formula.
Formula: E= E' – E''
Example:
When measurement (E') from the outer race end to the
inner race end is 34.90 mm (1.374 in), and outer race
height (E'') is 29.70 mm (1.169 in):
E= 34.90 – 29.70 = 5.20
The gap (E) from the inner race end to the outer race
end is 5.20 mm (0.205 in).
Determine the tolerance and record it using the
measurement (D), calculation (E) and the following
formula.
Formula: Tolerance = D + E – 152.50
Example:
When measurement (D) from the pinion gear end to the
end of the vertical shaft collar is 147.10 mm (5.791 in),
and calculation (E) from the inner race end to the outer
race end is 5.20 mm (0.205 in):
147.10 + 5.20 – 152.50 = –0.20
The tolerance is –0.20 mm (–0.008 in).
