CYLINDER HEAD REMOVAL/

INSTALLATION

REMOVAL
• Remove the cylinder head assembly while the
engine is cold to prevent warpage.
• Take care not to damage the cylinder head and
cylinder block mating surfaces.
Set the timing belt driven pulley at top dead center of
the compression stroke of the No.1 cylinder before
removal/installation of the cylinder head assembly
(page 14-6).
Disconnect the battery negative (–) cable.
Shift the remote control lever to the N (neutral) position.
Remove the following:
– Engine cover
– Exhaust manifolds (page 5-95)
– Timing belt (page 14-6)
– Cylinder head covers (page 14-19)
– Fuel pump (High pressure side)/Vapor separator
(page 5-86)
– Fuel pipe and injectors (page 5-78)
Disconnect the CMP sensor 4P connector [1].
Remove the eight cylinder head bolt/washers [1] in the
numbered order in two or three steps.
Remove the cylinder head assembly, and remove the
cylinder head gasket [1] and four dowel pins [2].
Remove the two oil control orifices [3] and two O-rings
[4].
• Take care not lose the oil control orifice.
