Apply marine grease to the seal holder [1] O-ring
groove and bearing part.
Install a new O-ring [2] to the seal holder and apply
marine grease to it.
Install the seal holder on shift shaft B [3] so that shift
shaft B does not tilt on the mount case.
Install the two bolts (6 x 11 mm) [4] to the seal holder
and tighten them.
Tape [5] shift shaft B as shown.
Apply marine grease to the oil seal contact surface of
the shift shaft B.
Apply marine grease to the lip part and soapy water to
the outer circumference of a new oil seal [6], and install
the oil seal to shift shaft B so that the oil seal lip is
toward the lower side.
Apply marine grease to the shift arm [7] click part.
After installing the oil seal, remove the tape, and install
the shift arm to shift shaft B and tighten the washer (6
mm) [8] and bolt (6 x 16 mm) [9].
Make sure the assist spring [1] tip pushes the neutral
switch [2].
Make sure the click spring roller [3] is in the shift arm
groove [4].
Make sure the assist spring tip does not contact the
neutral switch when the shift lever is in either forward or
reverse.
Inspect the shift control cable and if necessary, adjust it
(page 20-3).
After reassembly, try turning the propeller shaft by hand
in the neutral position. If it does not turn freely, recheck
shift shaft A and B alignment.
Also, make sure the outboard shifts properly into
